Surgery Update

For those of you that did not know, and an update for those of you who did....Ryan's surgery went well. The recovery however has been ruff. Last thursday he had surgery for a Deviated Septum. I'm pretty sure that after watching him suffer like he has, I would never ever have that surgery unless it was life threatening. The surgery took about 1.5 hours, and recovery time was supposed to be 2-3 hours, and then home. However, recovery time took a little bit longer (8 hours total)!! Seems like the surgeon nicked or highly irritated the main nerve that runs from his nose to everywhere in his head. He was in terrible pain. When I say terrible, I mean I wanted to cry just sitting there watching him. After several rounds of morphine, and vicodin we were able to go home. He has been home all weekend with enough gauze packed in his nose for us to mummify one of the kids, and our sleeping arrangements finally ended up being daddy in our bed, mommy in Cooper's bed and Cooper on the couch. (Apparently having all that stuff up ones nose makes you breathe funny when sleeping). He is black and blue, and had so much swelling he looks like one the Who people from Dr. Seuss!!
This morning we went to the doctor's office to have the packing removed, and without any type of numbing agent or sedation they proceeded to rip out the entire 64 feet (exaggeration here, but it was a LOT) of gauze out of his nose, only to tell him that it was still a little crooked and then jammed some more gauze back into one side until thursday when he will go back in to hopefully not have the whole procedure done again. He was white as a ghost when we left and felt faint, but he just called me at work and said he was feeling better and was even breathing a little out of the one side of his nose.
On a better note, me and the kids are doing fabulous. Florence Nightingale I am not, but I think Ryan would even agree that I did pretty good this past weekend. Yes, I admit I had one, maybe two episodes of childish behavior.....but I worked thru it all and in the end did very well. Even the kids knew that daddy didn't feel good, and were very good.
Hopefully all will go well on thursday!!
