This past thursday and friday little Ely went in to have dye injected so the doctor's could take some films to see what happened when the dye got to the liver. Late friday (about 4:30pm) the dr. here in town called my sister and told her he was sending the films on to a dr. in Chicago to have them reviewed. The dye never left the liver, so one of two things was going on. 1. the bile ducts are plugged and not letting anything thru, or 2. the ducts are so damaged that they have collapsed. The dr. here told them they would know the next step by monday. Well....at 7pm friday night the dr. in Chicago called the dr. here and wanted to see Ely ASAP. So, after waiting about 24hrs for BCBS to approve them to go to Chicago they left this morning bound for the Pediatric Liver center at the Chicago Memorial Hospital - the leading pediatric liver center in the United States.
Tomorrow (monday) he will be having an ultrasound, and more bloodwork. On tuesday he will be having a liver biopsy. The doctor's are not very forthcoming with information at this point, but it sounds like it's not good. One good thing - is they are finally getting somewhere. I'm not very patient, and wanted answers a week ago. I suppose the doctor's know what they are doing huh? My sister has been very reasonable, and calm thru it all. For which I am extremely grateful. Some good news is that little Ely has gained 14 oz in the past week and a half. (Found out he has acid reflux - another test that poor baby had to go thru last week).
We are coveting your prayers, and I will continue to post with any news we get.
